As of May 2021, 0.64 miles of the shared use path have been built. It will be 10 feet wide and 1.3 miles long, stretching the entire interchange from the U.S. Coast Guard headquarters to the intersection of South Capitol Street SE and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue SE. It will have pull-off areas, revegetation zones, benches, improved lighting, pedestrian hand railings, and green space buffer zones between pedestrians and traffic. Most of the retaining walls and pedestrian hand railings have been installed. By mid-2021, we will begin seeing new landscaping and streetlights along the 0.5 mile stretch of the pathway.
